Clarity beats cleverness
Within a few seconds, a visitor should know what you do, who it is for, and what to do next. That sounds obvious and almost nobody gets it right. Clever headlines, vague taglines and mystery navigation all cost you the same thing: a visitor who leaves confused. Say the plain thing first; you can be charming below the fold.
Speed is a feature, not a nicety
Every second a page takes to load, people leave. Slow sites lose customers and rankings at the same time. Heavy images, bloated scripts and cheap hosting are the usual culprits, and they are all fixable. Treat performance as part of the design, not an afterthought once everything else is built.
One obvious next step per page
Each page should have a single clear thing you want the visitor to do — call, enquire, book, buy. When you offer five competing buttons of equal weight, people choose none. Decide the priority action, make it visually loud, and let everything else support it rather than compete with it.
Build trust before you ask for anything
People buy from businesses they believe. Real testimonials, recognisable client logos, clear pricing where you can show it, a human contact route — these quietly do the persuading. A visitor weighing you up is looking for reasons to trust you; give them, and the conversion follows.
Then measure and improve
